New interface - well my piece of crap tascam us-122 just got fried somehow. i need something a little better. if anyone has any suggestions on interfaces below $400 and better than that us-122 let me know. i use sonar 4 on a laptop if it matters.

Recording drums - the tascam us-122 only has two inputs, so it limits the tracks into sonar. it sounds to me like you have plenty of mics, you just have to get a good mix on your yamaha mixer. easier said than done, of course. you haven't specified

Whats limiting the number of tracks? a good recording can be done with just 2-3 mics depending on what sound you are looking for....

I'm using a m-audio quatro at the moment. No real issues with it all. I was rather surprised by it actually. I expected some bandwidth limitations from the usb interface and there are at higher specs but 24/44.1 has worked...

Pre amps? - well i use sonar 4 with a tascam us-122 interface. i mic the electric and the vocals are obviously micd. everything else is line level. does the interface serve as a pre amp?

Unless it was all software or all at line level ... i suspect you did use a pre-amp ... You just didn't see it as such welcome...

I don't think you can use the external sounds from the rolands in gb4. The keystation comes with a usb connection, so really you just need to input your guitars and vocals. I use a tascam us-122 for my interface...

Never used the ones you refer to. I use a tascam us-122 for an interface. That should also be in your price range. Handy because it also has midi inputs and i've never had a problem with it....
