Best 8 channel ada setup under $1k - check out the rme multiface, about $1k for the interface and pci card, which connects to the interface via firewire. it has 8 analog i/o, 8 channels adat optical, midi i/o, spdif. no pres, just converters and a great

Check the motu traveller. basically an 828 but smaller and nicer and midi too. Supposed to be a pretty nice piece of gear. maybe a used rme?...

Upgrading rme converters with tascam dat? or not... - i would look for some other issues. i use several of the rme multiface, (they are replacing some m-audio delta 1010) and they sound great. to upgrade i would start looking at benchmark or apogee.

Imho, sounds like you've got clocking issue with the rme. Are you monitoring playback with external clock/sync? that black box is good but only works in 16-bit...

Best soundcard for nuendo 2.0 - i had good experiences with rme multiface and fireface. both are really good and have solid drivers. and you get digicheck :lol:

Laptop question - my adwise, go mac... with a decent firewire interface. and maybee a firewire 7200rpm hd for audio... & a healthy amount on ram. stick peak and logic on it and you are up and running... that's for music.

Thinking of buy...fireface 4000 or multiface ii pci

I have to say that i always work on a desktop and never on laptops...So i wouldn't need a portable solution. my first goal is working with the lowest latency.... from this point of view i guess multiface is more performant...

Which one (rme) - i have and like the multiface too. great features and reliability. the convertors aren't the same as the rme top-o-the-line standalone convertors, but they are good enough that there are a lot of other things more important to the si

Which one (rme) - jonyoung & tnjazz would you consider the rme converters better than the converters in digidesign (pro-tools).

Laptop question - my first and probably more useful response would be to go with whatever you are most comfortable with. you can make quality recordings on either platform, as long as you do your research and get a well built computer. that being said

Which one (rme) - the multiface is amazing and sounds like it would better suit your needs as well as allowing you room for expansion. i have a multi and a digiface and love them. my only complaint about them is the weird half rackspace size of the box.
