I purchased an rme hammerfall & multiface i/o box combo from audiomidi.Com here in the us a while back. about 2 months ago i did a total cleaning and rebuild to the studio and the multiface started having a problem....

Is usb hard drive ok? - lilbabyjrsob, maybe i'm confused, but in my relatively new experience i first purchased a usb drive for my daw setup and i noticed that i couldn't record more than two tracks and it wouldn't let me play back more than two track

If you had a usb 1.1 port - you would certainly expect those kinds of issues (usb 1.1 is pure crap). usb 2.0 is plenty fast for multiple tracks, but i also prefer firewire as long as your system...

Where are buffer settings for rme multiface ? - if there is an rme ''company forum'', you might better check there for answers..? lynx has one and it's run by the people who design and build the lynx stuff(damned handy!), though their printed documenta

There is a buffer section in the sync control panel iirc (the ''hammer'' icon in the system tray). you can select 1ms, 3ms, 6ms, etc, etc in the upper left corner. when tracking i use the multiface's hdsp...

Is usb hard drive ok? - thanks everyone. my laptop has 1 mini firewire port and 2 usb ports. if were to get a firewire hd i would obviously have to buy a firewire card for it. would this just take more away from the cpu and memory by adding on to

Which one (rme) - have you considered the fireface. its got a ton of inputs, great converters, and totalmix, which let me get rid of my mixer. its very easy to route things anywhere

I guess it depends on how many inputs/outputs you think you need. I got the multiface recently, love it....

Imho, sounds like you've got clocking issue with the rme. Are you monitoring playback with external clock/sync? that black box is good but only works in 16-bit...
