The next step.... - in this context pre's is short for microphone pre-amplifier. (most computer sound cards only have line level inputs) multiface is the name of an rme computer sound card product see www.rme-audio.com

The next step.... - i would look into cubase sx3 and an rme pci card and multiface this is probably about 1400 but it would be worth it. with this you have a good starting point to expand. if you go cheaper you will regret it later. trust me. this

Which interface under $700? - for that money i would go with rme. the new multiface mkii is good, but i don't know the exact pricing.

And yes, i understand there isn't much difference with human ears from 24/96 and 24/192. nobody records low/mid level vo's in 24/192, but i plan on using this budget studio as a start-up to master the basics, a good...

You're getting a feedback loop somewhere. basically your input signal is recieveing your output signal somewhere down the line. Re-trace all your connections to make sure nothing is crossed. there's not a whole lot you can do with the audigy, it's not...

Where are buffer settings for rme multiface ? - you'll find some of the settings from your system disk -> drivers -> multiface -> hdsp -> hammerfall dsp settings. i/o buffersize settings aren't there. if you're using logic, you can set the buffersiz

There is a buffer section in the sync control panel iirc (the ''hammer'' icon in the system tray). you can select 1ms, 3ms, 6ms, etc, etc in the upper left corner. when tracking i use the multiface's hdsp...
