Transfering dat to daw..the best way? - thanks, i just got an answer from rme (great customer support, by the way) that multiface simply to not have a 16bit output mode. it always goes out at 24bit and cubase truncates 8-bits when set to record in 16bi

Re: 24 bit to 16 bit: what's lost? - back to 24 vs 16 bit. cd uses 16bit. this is plenty enough for most contemporary music. after all, almost everything is compressed to sound good on the radio and has a very limited dynamic range. it also works rathe

Me too. - i was browsing the internet about so many gear-related things i can't remember which one lead me here. i was probably researching the rnp or tlm-103 at the time. on the other hand, it could have been rme multiface, apogee mini-me, at4033, at4050

I found it thru a google search for a fee vst effect, and the funny part is that now i can't even remember what the vst was!...

Monitoring dac - i'm also in the market for something like this. i'm currently using an rme multiface as the dac for my monitors, and as a headphone amp. has anyone here tried the grace m902? http://www.gracedesign.com/products/902/m902frame.htm

The dac-1 is the best bit of audio gear i have ever owned, apart from the nagra of course. It has made the most profound difference in sound quality, and enabled me to understand the real issues affecting sound quality...

The next step.... - carefree, multiface is an rme product... check the specs out at their website. when anyone refers to pres they mean preamps... usually for mics. they range quite significantly in price and quality... i.e. $2500 for two good channels

Welcome wanderer, as you've already surmised you need a mulitrack system so that you can mix after the event (rather than the live stereo mix you do now). it looks like you're using about 12 chnanels so far, imho 16 would certainly...
