Imho... Try a shure ksm44. for the price, i am just blown away by this mic....

Solidtube by akg - i've used it on loud screaming hardcore vocals before with good results (a little saturation).

...There are many other tube mics costing less than the solidtube that are better value...Imho the mxl v69 & v77, rode ntk and studio projects t3 are just a few...Of course, that's personal preference, but the solidtube doesn't seem to...

Solidtube by akg - i brought one not long after it first came out and there wasn't nearly as much choice as there is now. i agree that it isn't the best mic in the world but it's still pretty good. i still find it very usable and not many bands go through

Hmmm.... I love my 414, but i would go with the k2 over it for vocals, but in other cases i think the 414 might be more versitile....

Akg solidtube noise - ok i have a sytek preamp with the burr browns very smooth going to an akg solidtube mic nice mic it just seems to have a lot of hum could the power supply be going bad?

Are you talking about ''60 hz'' hum? have you done any detective work, like plug a different mic into the pre, or plugged the akg into a different pre? i suspect that the mic is the culprit, because the solidtube...

What makes mics hum-sensitive? - i had this problem with my akg solidtube but that turned out to be a fault in the wall socket that i plugged the power supply into. i didn't think about it and always plugged into the same socket when recording. i know tha

Just putting this out there!

I dont care what anyone says the gt-2 is one of the best buys i have ever seen in the 200-300 range for a tube mic. It has relatively smooth highs and tube warmth that make a great all around...
